For the Love of Laughing
This book of humorous stories had its origin over 70 years ago. The author’s love for hearing and telling jokes was learned as a boy, from his father. Later in his life, he began jotting down punch lines of his favorites to help remember them. During a joke-telling session with friends in the 1960s, he resolved to some day compile an entire book of his collected stories. For the next 45 years, each time he heard a worthy new story, he added it to his collection. After getting his first computer in 1985, he began the tedious task of converting all his recorded punch lines into written stories that could effectively convey their humor. Jokes almost always seem funnier when you hear them than when you read them. Hours of careful writing were required to best capture the humor of narrated stories. In 2011, at age 80, he realized it was time to begin serious work on composing and publishing his long-planned book. His collected stories were carefully re-edited, categorized, and readied for publishing. Collectively, they provide a sample of the classic humor that has made America laugh for the last five decades. The 333 stories can provide joke lovers a “joke of the day” for almost a year.
